520 _aThere have been so many books written about "Management." Whenever it is taught or talked about, whether in school or in the office, the discussion inevitably must include "Organization" and vice-versa. The great Management Guru Peter Drucker wrote in one of his books, "Management is tasks. Management is a discipline. But management is also people." From this statement, it seems that to write about management, we must also write about organization. Thus, focus was placed on management as work or tasks and on the manager as a person whose job is to integrate tasks and people in an organization. The book starts with a presentation of what the job of a manager is and his/her responsibilities. Then, it is followed by a discussion of the requirements of the job and the type of organizations that the manager will manage. The rest of the book deals in more detail and concrete terms with that management work really entails, the competencies the manager has to develop, as well as the tools and techniques to learn in meeting the challenges of managing. This book and the approach used were developed by Three Filipino authors combining their accumulated knowledge and more than 100 years experience as professional managers and consultants of various organizations, both at the local and international levels. The readers are, therefore, assured of two things: first, that what is contained in the book is management practice, and second, that the principles and concepts have been applied and validated by a number of Filipino entrepreneurs and managers in the Philippines.
